What is Middle States?

Middle States is a nationally recognized accreditation process dedicated to educational excellence and improvement through peer evaluation of public and private universities and colleges. Middle States accreditation instills public confidence in institutional mission, goals, performance, and resources through its rigorous accreditation standards and their enforcement. Middles States accreditation is managed by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, a voluntary, non-governmental, membership association that is dedicated to quality assurance and improvement through accreditation via peer evaluation.

UMBC’s Self-Study

The construction of UMBC’s Self-Study will be an inclusive process and will include input from a broad range of campus stakeholders. It will also serve as a benchmark upon which to build an enhanced, formalized, periodic, and proactive institutional effectiveness process, with special emphasis on student success.

Our Self-Study will provide us with the opportunity to construct benchmarks in preparation for the implementation of a new strategic plan, help us plan to establish infrastructure to ensure its successful implementation, and measure our progress towards meeting our goals.
